lyrics

Spell for protecting the Bark of Re

O you who emerge from the waters, who escape from the flood and climb on to the stern of your bark, may you indeed climb on to the stern of your bark, may you be more hale than you were yesterday. You have included N, a worthy spirit, in your crew; if you are hale, he will be hale.

O Re in this your name of Re, if you pass by the Eye of seven cubits with a pupil of three cubits, you will make N hale, the worthy spirit in your crew; if you are hale, he will be hale.

O Re in this your name of Re, if you pass by the dead who are upside down, you shall cause N the worthy spirit to stand up on his feet; if you are hale, he will be hale.

Your body, O Re, is everlasting by reason of the spell.

To be recited over a strip of royal linen on which this spell has been written in dried myrrh; to be placed on the throat of the blessed dead on the day of burial. If this protective spell is placed on his throat for him, praises will be made for him as for the gods, he shall be united with the Followers of Horus; the starry sky shall be made firm for him in the presence of Him who is with Sothis, his corpse shall be a god, together with his relatives, for ever, and a bush shall be planted for him over the breast by Menqet. It was the Majesty of Thoth who did this for the Majesty of the vindicated King of Upper and Lower Egypt Osiris through desire that the sunlight should rest on his corpse.
